:hideHi all, a few questions and if you have the answers then mucho gracias.
Any way to make the throttle a quick action? Must be a way instead of having so much movement from closed to open.

Is remus the best header exhaust and can?

Air filter, which one?

Any other ideas to improve the beast that must lie within?

cheers and thankyou

Is remus the best header exhaust and can? Yes or Bos £240

Air filter, which one? K&N £36 but not without a Dim-sport

Any other ideas to improve the beast that must lie within? Dim-sport rapid bike 3 £370 or power commander:aidan

Full Remus + K&N + Dim-sport = about 100 to 104 BHP

Given the fact the bike is designed as a dual purpose machine a quick action throttle is not something anyone would develop as it's unlikely there would be a large enough take up for sales to make it commercially viable.

Very personal this one, Remus were the first manufacturer to bring out cat replacement items for the 1150 and had a close working relationship with BMW which continued with the launch of the 1200 in 2004 and it took other manufacturers a while to come up with products. If your talking about maximising performance in my book it has to be the Akrapovic full race system which was never intended to have removable baffles to make it road legal and the twin shotgun format really lets the gases flow. Down side is the cost at nearly £1200 new it's a serious chunk of change but they do appear used for around £550 now and then and thats a lot of system for the money.

K & N has been mentioned, one other to consider is the Green filter from France. Green actually manufacture a filter sold by Wunderlich as their Blue filter. Same filter as they sell direct but the colour is Blue rather than Green and its about £15 cheaper going Green. :blast

Remapping product such as Power Commander have been mentioned, one other to consideris the Wunderlich Power Controller which while not enabling a full custom map to be prepared as it only adds fuel rather than removing it at points across the rev range it's been widely used with good reports.

Other Wunderlich products are the power snorkel and booster cams just depends how far you want to go.

The remus headers for sure and all the other goodies will add up to a make noticable difference but as for 'the beast within' I just don't reckon there's one in there waiting to be coaxed out. Even the HP2 is profoundly gutless :augie for such a big capacity twin. If you compare the bhp/litre a stock Harley V-rod of all things is making more impressive power and torque, let alone anything more sophisticated like a KTM. The GS has a softly tuned engine in a bike can be hustled along at a fair rate of knots in most real-life riding situations mostly because it's handles OK and you are sitting tall enough to look over double decker buses. It also means it returns close to 50mpg and lasts forever.

WTF

Full Remus + K&N + Dim-sport = about 100 to 104 BHP

What is that about?

£161 For each horse?

Can you really be arsed and if had £650 to spend on the bike I dont think it would be on a 4% improvement in engine output ( I have the '08 GSA with 5% more power and IMHO the difference is hardly noticeable ):nenau

Playing with engines is fun...............the amount of mony spent is never proportional to the gains in power (with the exception of N2O :D)

However, don't just look at the top end power increase.

What good intake, exhaust and fueling mods produce is a bike with a much livlier engine and a 'real world' improvement in the mid range.

PS And, to add to the original post, I too wish there was a quicker action throttle - the 'two handful' throttle is pants.

Why dont you just buy a quick action throttle twis grip and put it on you'll obvously have to remove the existing and just fix it on the bars. re-route the throttle cable obvoiusly it will "not look standard" but in the true belief of modifications don't worry about it. You van get one quite cheap from m&s ? (lost the catalouge) any way for a few quid you can try it if it works work on a MK2 design. if it dont put it back to normal no hassel.
dave (never be afraid to experiment) GS. (or just buy an 1150).

R1200S twistgrip assembly should do the trick for the fast action throttle.

Dave

IIRC it has a cam on the throttle, purposefuly slowing down the throttle response, something that was critisised in a few of the test reports I read on the bike :nenau

...

Thats sounds a bit like a wheel manufacturer saying that there would be no call for alloy wheels on 4x4, because they aren't strong enough for off road.

Most GSes never go seriously off road. I did once on mine and resulted in my decission to buy a DRZ, which has a much shorter/quicker throttle.

So is there no budding engineers out there to make one, sounds as though they may sell, I had one on me gixer and it was just a plastic shim which slipped below the cable, thus giving more cable pull per twist. I maybe see whats in the gs housing.
Thanks for the helpful advice guys an gals, cheers

i'm sorry but the first thing i thought of when i saw the thread title was this

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Nw2bAJGgCZI&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Nw2bAJGgCZI&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

sad ain't i :D

That'd put the willies up any sportsbike riders :augie
