The contact pins in the mount for my Zumo 550 started to corrode and one of them popped out, rendering the thing useless as it seemed to be one of the power supply pins. - Maybe a casualty of being hard-wired to the battery and therefore 'always on'. -Is there electrolysis or something going on in there??

Anyway, the good people at Garmin have now sent me out a new adapter.

Any ideas as to how I can protect the pins from corroding again and also anything I could apply to protect the strap on the rubber cover from perishing? The original one dried up and and broke within about a month.

Cheers.

Yes - get hold of some dielectric grease - you can order it from a Honda dealer if you can't find it locally. That will protect the pins on the connector.

As for the cover, suggest either a smear of vaseline, or how about hydraulic brake seal grease - not sure where you buy that - motor factors, maybe?
