Looking at building a roofed in pergola out my back

Dont have funds to build the extension so instead I am going to build log cabin to store bike kit, buggies and prams and other shite, plus small desk for me work on computer

Inbetween house and cabin a large pergola, use in summer as food prep area and winter be able drive into back and get around with out getting soaked

Also might fit a retractable front so in winter can use it as outdoor entertainment area semi sheltered all round from elements

I am looking for roofing ideas, I know so far cheapest is box section polycarbonate/persoex sheeting, bit like corrigated just flat and square profile, looks bit better than corrigared style but still now great

Multi layer poly is not great looking as lot of them are very frosted looking

The ideal would eb perspex flat sheet, but for anything the area I need its expensive,

Can find 2mm sheet chepa but 3-5mm is over 4 times cost

Anyone else have ideas or supplliers?

i was looking at thoes, my concern is in winter and wind it could get ripped apart

Yes, though in winter I'd probably not use it so much, They're retractable on cords or you can just take them down. We're mainly looking at it for sunshade rather than weather protection year round. Our outdoor kitchen area will have a lean-to slated roof over the bbq and prep area so we can use it even if it's rains.

i would be opposite, mine is mainly for winter use so we have large open area in winter but also dry access to cabin as we are short on storage in house

yes just like it be clear as dont want block light into house and garden area

Probably a daft idea, but have a look on Ebay for shower cubicles.
The specs on the sort of glass/perspex used in one of those should be fairly good, as they'll be rated for use in slipper wet conditions with people leaning/falling against them.

They seem to go for VERY little money, because they all need collection, but if you are able to do that.....:nenau

good idea never taught of that, will have look, need fair amount of them though

Some double and triple wall Polycarbonate on eBay - EI may be an issue tho'

btw I am using secondary insulation of removeable 100mm Celotex sheets between the joists for the winter months

Access Plastics Ashbourne will suupply in 2m wide any length, and all other types of plastic sheeting , and all the attachments , view their web site or more info

Yes been on to them but talking few grand. Perspex cosy me double the whole build
