Petrol Gauge on F650

My F650GS was bought in Sept 2008 and when it went in for it's first service before I could complain about the petrol gauge I was told it was a recall item and would be replaced. Although this was done I have still found it completely inaccurate. We've just come back from Austria where I had to use the fuel odometer on my Garmin to keep an eye on it. We pulled in at one petrol station where my petrol gauge was showing completely full and filled it up with over 11 litres of fuel. For a 16 litre tank I would have suggested that should have been telling me it was less than half full rather than full! Each time I got 8-10 litres in the tank while the gauge cheerily sat on full. Came to the conclusion that this is BMW bling rather than anything useful!

Has anyone else had a problem with theirs? I am going to call dealer tomorrow to insist it is fixed under warranty as I don't thnk it should be that rubbish. Would be helpful if I knew if it was just me or a more common problem.

Thanks

I had Mine changed with the recall upgrade again just done as a matter of course..... its not spot on but good enough I ran it dry to test its capability.

The fuel light came on then 49 miles later it ran out.

when the computer showed 9 miles to empty it actualy gave me 23 Miles.

so its good I also use the garmin fuel gauge as back up. Sounds like yours is faulty No doubt the dealership will replace it for you F.O.C under warranty issues :thumb2

Great - that's useful to know. I thought it was a bit dodgy but as far as I know I only have about 16 litres for a full tank and was getting very edgy as we went off into the mountains as I was certain I couldn't have a full tank.

I do hope there isn't a row about it. I don't really want to pay their prices for her service (she hit 12000 while we were away) but I guess if I want my gauge changed I'll have no choice
