Riding back from Holland yesterday About 30 miles out of Calais, a group of people in road trying to stop bikes and cars. Basically, cause crash - lorries slow down and rest we all know....
One of the little Sh@tes threw as well as bricks, a plastic bottle at me. It had petrol in it. Yes, it was petrol. Did well to miss him at 50mph. The screen got brunt of petrol well as my lid torso. I got to the Euro Tunnel about 8pm to find screen had truned opaque and right fog light on crash bar had been snapped off mounting and busted.

Problem is my MRA Varo has an opaque stain where petrol hit. Covers about 50% of screen.Tried MUC off / SDOC and screen cleaner (Halfords) but still there.
Can someone answer - is screen knackered? or is there something I can clean it with?

Sorry no pics

Thanks
Mike

Actually try wiping ACF50 on the damaged area. Someone suggested that will clear it.

If you don't mind the elbow grease, Brassso will prob polish it out. Don't be tempted to use an electric polisher unless it has a slow speed as it will melt the plastic.
Galling I know, best is to buy a new one.

That’s not good at all, and I’m glad you kept it upright.:thumb

Was that on a dual carriage way/ motorway, as I’ve never seen the scrotes on the back roads?

Try WD40, if all else fails, as it’s my go to for removing water marks and other marks from my clocks & screen. Test it in a corner first.

If you can't get the stain off (and I suspect you can't) - I suggest tinting with a light headlamp tint film. This will cover it up without the need to buy a new screen. Any car window tint firm can do this if you can't (although it's not a hard thing to do) and I recommend Tintinit if you are ever in the Andover area.

Thanks for the tips. Once the kids are in bed I will be spending this evening having ago. Suspect its a new screen. My Shoei visor has gone the same way and I have one on order from Bike stop.

It was at night 7.30 pm and on A16. Did tell the Gendarmes at Eurotunnel and they were not interested. He just said don't drive at night.

Thanks
Mike

Bloody hell - sorry to hear that. When you watch a mad max film you don't expect that to be real life on the roads today. WTF and I'm still saying it...WTF.

Did this in fact happen at night..?

His words... I got to the Euro Tunnel about 8pm

Thanks for the tips.

There has been warnings not to travel on the A16 after dark on bikes, for a while now

I have used Wurth Helmet and Visor cleaner with some success on small areas. If it is extensive then you need a new screen.

Toothpaste - amazing stuff - use a soft cloth and work it in - I've cleaned all sorts of delicate stuff...

Use cheapo white version - not the fancy Gels.

I have had astounding success with Meguiers plast -x - my lived outdorrs for 17 years winter shitter Funduro screen was completly matt opaque (could barely see you hand through it) and with all sorts of scratches/residues etc and (I thought) only good for the bin, It was really, really bad. I had some of this plast x stuff from a dull polycarb headlight restoration session from a while back, so I thought I would give it a go before I threw the screen away.

It came up pretty much like new after only the first pass. Its pretty much what this stuff was designed for. Give it a go, its worth a try.

It works well on visors as well.

I wish the French Authorities would get a grip of this - Calais is just so Wild West these days; the townsfolk must be in dispair.

Anyway, looking to sorting the problem. Toothpaste & polishes work well for small jobs, like car headlights, but this seems to be in a different league. The liquid thrown appears rather aggressive/corrosive to be just petrol too, as helmet visors are pretty resilient - maybe brake fluid or some other agent presumably intended to be ignited against the front of trucks. Aside from a wanted ad on here, if you still have the OE screen pro tem, I can only think of trying vapor polishing - it won't improve the surface deficiencies, but it will make the screen clear again.......... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFMW5LoQLvA. It's a dangerous process, so one for the professionals.

No joy and in the bin

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. After running around buying various suggestions and different type of toothpaste - two hours worth of work on the screen itself and in the bin. Rukka gloves have gone the same way as the left has turned white too. Didnt want ebay just a right glove.

Have just ordered a new screen. Lesson learnt. Out to Germany, next week and will take the very battered Pan and on daytime shuttles.

GS in for service, stantion check and various error codes.

Thanks and ride safe
