Here is a diary of all the village wine festivals taking place in the Sud Pfalz wine area of Germany. There's a festival almost every weekend in the area. Most if not all of these villages are half timbered and very picturesque. There are lots of guest houses, BnBs and small hotels in all these villages There are also some cracking roads in the area, heading into the Pfalzerwald and over the border into northern Alsace.

The Wurstmarkt festival in Bad Duerkheim is the biggest wine festival in the world.

Never been to a Pfalz wine festival, but I might have to put one of these on my itinerary.

They're quite special in that part of the world - especially when if comes to eating and drinking - I recall a bar in a village where it seemed to be quite normal to order wine in a half-litre beer glass.

In this region, lot's of men drink wine as opposed to beer. I've tried but it really goes straight to my head. When my Dad was a bit younger and a bit fitter and drank regularly, he always drank half litres of Schorle which is wine and soda water (half and half). A "Winter Schorle" was 3/4 wine and the rest soda. He could drink 12 or 15 in an evening and not be falling about. I could probably manage three :blast
