Phoenix to Grand Canyon

Will be in Phoenix in a few weeks so renting a H*rley and riding up to Grand Canyon and then meeting up with friends in Kayenta to check out Monument Valley.

Want to vist the Southern Rim of the Canyon so does anyone have a good route from Phoenix to the Canyon avoidong R17?

I went from LA to the plains of Colorado in 98 via the Grand Canyon but I don't have route for you.
All I will say, is if you get a chance, take a drive through Sedona.
It's well worth the visit.
And it is the capital of wierd and wackyness.
UFO's aliens, lay lines and hippy wierdo's.
Also a couple more things.
A large crater just east of Flagstaff (I think) and a great hotel in Cameron run by Indians.
