We're off the the Picos in middle of May. Has anyone got any good gps routes; good pointers for best roads etc. and what's the campsite situation like?

Any help much appreciated.

The road to Sotres and beyond is well worth the effort.

The hotel Del Oso near Potes is good.

Cheap hostel on the square in Potes. So cheap it's not worth looking for a campsite. I seem to remember a site on the Potes to Fuente De road though. And some hippies living in the trees!

Doing the Bilbao/Santander route, take the ONE night ferry, we did the 2 night version and was shocked at how much we spent on food and entertainment on board. Entertainment :augie Picos are easy to get to and great. The Grand Route (start is on left just before the quad bike hire place) and takes in 160kms of mixed roads including great climbs. We did it in a day but that meant missing a few sights to get back on time. Plane a stop and take in the lake etc: Fuente De (Big mountain) has camping and hotels and the cable car is a must. Single rope, no towers for about 2000 ft,UP brilliant though not much up there. Gorges etc just great, We went on to Portugal (North is great, cheap and welcoming). Road brilliant and weather like nothing else.

Fuel

P:S: Petrol in Potes, fill up there. There are few petrol stations in the hills. The market is a real local affair, and Potes is simple and busy. I will go back one day.:D

PICOS DE EUROPA

I agree the campsite 2 miles beyond Potes is great and they have family tents already for you.,Swimming pool ,cafe, bar on site.

Ride up the gorge to Riano, and down the recently tarmaced road to Cain, right in the bottom of the gorge[it was a proper rough road until recently, now it is a doddle] for your bate,
Panes to Cangas De Onis is a great and fast road through the valley.
Drop into Colombres for a cuppa where the Moto Piston Rally is held in October.
About ten of the lads are visiting the Picos and the Pyrenees on May 27th for ten nights if you are still there we are staying in Potes just up from the quad bikes hotel,

three hours well spent on this route..

There is a short cut through the middle of the mountain if you have massive Balls :D
