Location
Vienne, France. The sunny bit.
I'm back after a week with friends in the Picos.

Tired and with much-reduced 'chicken-strips'

Day 1. 439 km's (overnight in this hotel) http://www.gurutzeberri.com
Day 2. 320 km's (Camping at La Isla de Picos in Furiena.)
Day 3. 220 km's
Day 4. 50 km's
Day 5. 225 km's
Day 6. 756 km's

If you haven't been the Picos de Europa is just superb.

Lake Riano fag break.

Only experienced two potential incidents on the whole trip and both on the Bordeaux ring road - it certainly has its share of inattentive 'muppet' drivers.

Hi Gary, well looks like you and the dregs had a good run- quite a few kms to pack in in 6 days 'touring'. The road surfaces look good anyway, and not too much traffic now. Hopefully coming back through the Picos after my trip to the Asturias at the end of the month.

Thanks JW, yes, we clocked up quite a few kms. The last day it was decided to see how far we could get towards home and stop somewhere overnight if we felt knacked. Made it home but fairly 'bike-shaped' when I got off.
Potes is good for evening meals with quite a few good/cheap eating places.

Enjoy your trip

Gary.

Hi Bugbear,

Thanks for the post, and great videos by the way. We are just back from the Cantabria/Asturias area after a short visit, not on the GS unfortunately. However we travelled widely, including the road from Potes back to Santander through the Picos area, and it was ...er.. interesting but quite frustrating...in a car:rolleyes:

This was our second visit to the area, last year we took two weeks on the 1800 Goldwing I have just sold, and with great weather, it was some of the finest biking country I have visited. The folks are very friendly too, once you try a little Spanish first...

We are really looking forward to getting the GS abroad next year...

By the way, this is a superb website, and I hope to visit often...keep up the reports and stay safe...

I've just found your thread regarding your trip through the Picos, I'm sure you will remember me, it's Glenn, David's friend ?
I'm looking to do a trip to the Picos De Europa next year and any help, guidance on routes and locations to stay would be great, prefer to get first hand advice.
Hope your good lady is keeping well and life in France is still good, look forward to hearing from you soon.
All the best
Glenn (gteps)

Give me a ring or PM me and I'll give you the details etc.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for the reply regarding the Picos De Europe, any info regarding locations, routes etc would be greatly appreciated, hoping to head that way around May 2013.
Hope your all keeping well and your still having fun on the GS, I recently purchased an F800GS for a little off the beaten track fun, wasn't sure I was going to like it after riding the Tiger 1050 which I still have but the F800GS is a cracking bike and dam good on petrol which at today's prices is not a bad thing.
Anyway, look forward to hearing from you soon, i cant seem to find the PM section so i thought i would supply my email address: [email protected]
All the best Glenn.

Hi Bugbear - I've just been enjoying your videos:clap. John and I are thinking about spending a little time in the Picos before heading for the Santander ferry. I have to admit to getting pretty bad vertigo so it was really helpful to get an idea of the roads from your videos, a couple of scary bits (to me) on Col D'Abisque from what I could see but otherwise nowhere near my apprehensive vision.
