Went in June a couple of years ago - to Santander. Mainly hot, but a couple of cool, cloudy days. Just ride around basically anywhere and you'll soon see where you want to head for. Never had a problem finding remote roadside hostals for 20 euros a night. Learn a couple of dozen words of Spanish so that you can say hello, ask for a room and say that you're from the UK. Super friendly folks in remote areas, probably the same in the tourist areas like Potes, but can't confirm that.

Ferry (big one) is great although the crew strap your bike down for you and it's best to stay and watch them. Tell them if you're not happy. It's a doddle riding round north Spain. The roads are empty.

June next year?

A mate's mate's mum says it will be nice on the 8th, which is a Monday but a touch chilly for the time of year on the Thursday of that week.

Have a look at:

Tips for the crossing? The best advice for any vessel on the salty seas is to stay above the water line.

PS Bugger learning the Spanish for: "I am from the UK ". Just say it in English, loudly and slowly.

PPS By then you'll probably be a proud independent nation. You'll be needing a passport and entry visa.

I went last year but a little earlier than you are planning. Arrived on the 17th May and spent 9 days working way back home.

It is a fantastic area to visit and the roads are amazing so quiet and generally well surfaced. Stayed in some great places and the petrol station in Riano must have one of the best views of any petrol station I have been to!!

For us we did not have a single day when, at some stage, we did not have to have our waterproofs on!! but still had a cracking time and with you going a little later I would hope the weather would be better!

I will go back there in the not too distant future!

I will post places we stayed if you would like or otherwise there is plenty of info on here or booking.com!

We took the ferry from St Nazaire in France down to Gijon which was a result as that is south of Picos to start with!
