Pico's in October

Hi all.
The weather in the Picos is very unpredictable at this time of year. The norm is for every 3 days of sun to be followed by 3 days of rain.A couple of weeks back the mornings were freezing until at least mid-day,with thick banks of fog.Take those woolies just in case!!

Have a good trip

Reports back from the Plymouth-Santander ferry is that the weather was stunning at the weekend and doesn't look like breaking.

Wish I'd been on it!

It was nice and hot.... to hot for the Whales as I didn't see any:( I spoke with a couple of the organisers on the deck area that they had closed off and said you told me to say hello. They said hello back and gave us 5 minutes before we had to go:tears It was actually a better view from other areas on the ship and less wind too.

It was interesting actually to here how we were crossing a large trench and the warmer water brings the food to the surface and hence why the ahales feed there... they must have eaten ealrlier though:D

Brilliant Ferry by the way but attrocious food and entertainment

Picos in June09

Hi All.

The strife and I are going across Spain from Bilbao to Lisbon in June 09.

Thawte I might have a look a the Picos on the way down. Can anybody please email me some sort of places to visit and a suggested route to get some great "Boxer Time"

I agree the ferry is a great relax on the way and we did see look for some whales on our last trip June 2008.

Thankx

Happy riding this summer ...... I hope:thumb

Square on the map: Cangas de Onis in the top left corner, Panes in the top right, Cervera de Pisuerga bottom right and Bonar botom left. Potes and Riano in the middle. Quite a small area, not that many roads to choose from in the Picos themsleves, but well worth it. Lots of other good roads in the area, though.

I'd enter to Picos from Unquera (N-621), direction Panes-Potes. Here, you can go to Fuente De (CA-185) at 1200m of altitude. There you can pick a "teleferico" and go up to 2000m (http://www.cantabriajoven.com/camaleno/fuentede/fuentede.html). You can also arrive there making a little bit of off-road :).

After this, you have to turn back to potes and continue to Riaño. Turn right to N-625 to cangas de Onis.

In cangas de Onis, you can go up to Covadonga and "lagos de Covadonga".

It's a one day round, but a if you have to make a night, in cosgaya there is "hotel del oso". A great place to sleep.

AndyT - the whale and dolphin survey charity I work for, ORCA, has got a group of 80 people on board your trip. You can't miss 'em! Organisers are Dylan and Ian, so if you see guys giving talks, say Marsh is watching them!

Just searched for an idea of October weather in Spain... expecially north and got this thread...

Planning a trip to Madrid and then points east via Santander ferry.

October looks like the weather is good? Mrs Moto might be more intereted then!

Thanks.

Keep your eyes open for big whales from the ferry down after the first night - it's the season and they're coming in thick and fast!
