just got back from an excellent trip thru' Picos, foothills of pyrennees, enjoyed the road out of andorra, even tho' the place itself sucks!

good weather helped interestingly the spanish hotel industry seems to think summer starts june 1st.... still managed to find decent accomodation with no real problem tho'
Including Hotel Aragon Huesca ( [email protected])who gave a 20% discount for Bikers!!! ( large lock up for bikes pool etc etc

We thought that the scale of the area was huge and relatively empty, little traffic goodish road stunning scenery... and then met some lads who had been fined euro 300+ by bike police, seems many towns have an unmarked poilice car with radar gun, backed up by traffic cars and police on bikes...but then you must be a bit of a numpty to speed in town anyway with all the great roads out in the wilds???

funny that after that we spotted loads of our friends in blue , especially around Potes itself! were they there all the time, in which case maybe we were not going fast enough to attract their attention ( which would be hard on the old ego!) or they were more bothered about stunt riders going bok in their towns?
looking forward to return visit now! :thumb

Noticed a couple of weeks ago near Potes that the Guarda Civil were using some sort of middle-weight trail bikes.

Clive and I saw five in the space of a few Km's.

They did wave back to us though, big difference to the Guarda Civil of a dozen years ago when the only thing they waved was a firearm!

Nice Policeman in Potes fined me 60 euros for having feet on crash bars last year :(

I imagine he's refering to the main town/s in Andorra which is one humunguss shopping mall catering to the Spanish and French Duty Free shoppers and really is grim :(

The roads (especially the road that climbs north just before the French border) are as good as any in the Pyrenees :thumb

FWIW,IMHO why does Andorra "suck"? the road to it from Spain is great, and all the way through the scenery is great, but the towns which all seem to have merged into one long strip are full of traffic and mostly lorries, which on a hot day was less than pleasant and a bit of a shock after the empty roads before and indeed, after, the A**eh*le that is Andorra "town"
There are lots of bike shops there, but no different to what you see in UK
Petrol is cheap, and I hear that tax free goods can be got but I could not wait to get the hell out of there!
I guess it was just too bloody busy for me, I hated it!
As I said however, the road out of it into France is excellent fun, good tarmac, wide with stunning views to distract you and it gets pleasantly cool as you reach the cafe at the top!
I went to Andorra in the early seventies , and was unimpressed then, and sadly it is worse now!
