Ken (Dahoum), Steve (Defor) and I were on the first of this year's off road courses in the Brecon Beacons. What fun! Can't speak highly enough of the course.

We arrived to the sight of a line up of more than a quarter million pounds of brand new bikes.

or-264.jpg

The three of us had booked 1200GS bikes and the instructors were mainly on Aventures.

Fortunately the bikes matched my outfit.

The 'hospitality tent'.

Hill recovery: the right procedure here is to drag the bike round using the footpegs as a pivot point (or the cylinder head on a boxer)

Simon Pavey hailed Ken as 'a living legend' for successfully roosting Nick Plumb. But as the pic shows, there's a price to pay.

How to park on a hill.

We were too busy having fun to take pictures of the dramatic stuff. But here's a video (5MB) of Ken dropping a 650 in the middle of the swamp: http://www.zroadster.net/or-ken.avi

As you can see from the pics, the bikes didn't have crash bars or cylinder protectors. Something about Touratech not getting stock in time...

As well as 'living legend' Ken got called several things over the weekend. He managed to fall off at least a dozen times on the first day, so one of his new names was 'Turtle' for his helpless leg waving whilst pinned on his back under the bike.

One of the falls split the cylinder head cover. There weren't any spare covers, so off goes Ken on the second day on another brand new bike, only to fall over another 20+ times. He got back with covers just about wrecked and Simon P called him another name...

The Abercrave Inn is ok, however if you get a room above the bar/restaraunt it can be a bit noisy. I found that the Copperbeach (next door to the Abercrave) had a comfier bed than the Abercrave. Both cost the same.

I was on the second course over the Easter weekend, so got the "second hand" bikes that Zmeagol's lot had damaged. Had a great time. Definately recommend it to anyone that wants to get some off-road skills.

Just watch out for the "killer hill" on day 2 and enjoy the "bath" at the end of the course.....

Even harder to get to the top....

That looks really good fun. How much is it if you don't mind me askin

I understand that the remaining courses this year are almost fully booked, partly due to the "McGregor" factor, so if your intersted get in quick.

... and a few more courses have been added

... including a girl only one.

Must admit - I was on the same course and these pics brought back a smile! ... the video of Kylie falling in (1) ... and the gallant efforts of all involved to rush in and help her (not).

Have just been back again(2) - it's just so much fun - but no more big water! (apparently they've had too many fall in...)

Atlantic Blue R1150R .. and kept falling off a yellow 650 on this course.

(1) Does she know her efforts are posted up here?
(2) I did the Level 1 twice: once on a 650 (described on this thread) and once on a 1200 (much easier ... but can go wrong big time); the level 2 on a 1200) and then the brecon adventure.... all brilliant.

Just got back
