How do you lot get these nice pictures to come up under your names when you post?

They're called avatars.

Click on the 'User CP' button at the top main pages. Then edit options and scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the avatar link.

From here you can select on from a range or use your own design.

I think Krusty means the pictures where the signature is, like Migsel has.. look HERE
