Overnight lubrication in your favourite brand of penetrating oil (WD40 etc etc) plus heat.....that's what you're probably missing.

Plus maybe a fat ended drift and a rubber mallet :beerjug:

I couldn't get one of mine out last year no matter what I tried. I ended up drilling the sod out. Try Fanum's suggestions first though.

I did mine last week. Penetrating oil and a drift did the trick...after a fair bit of 'persuasion'

Pegs

Loads of penetrating oil leave over night then hot air gun warm up spray again should punch out

Thanks all for the advice, tried the penetrating oil and heat gun, sods still wouldn't come out, given up! but the majority of work has been done :)

If its an 08-09 there will be rust all over the sub frame. In my case there was rust under the seat mount rubbers that were stuck in place at the factory. The OEM paint was good enough to see out the warranty.

You've got so far along, why not take the sub frame off and sent it for zinc plating followed by etch prime and paint. Alternatively a conductive zinc powder base coat with normal powder coat over the top. For powder - make sure all threads are covered or plugged.

You'll need to support the engine as the centre stand is on the rear frame. But if its worth doing, etc, etc. You will also need new gear shift bushes but they are not silly money from BMW.

Bendy, can you please please stop making such generalised statements. I have an '08 and there's zero rust on mine and I'm sure there's plenty out there in the same condition. I know your bike is a Friday afternoon job but there were plenty built Mon-Thurs and Friday mornings.

You got lucky. Ive seen a few Mk2 Adventures with similar corrosion on the rear frame as I had to contend with. Earlier bikes look a whole lot better especially those with silver paint.

Either mine accidentally fell off the conveyor while anti rust undercoat/primer was going on or the finish BMW applied was just as crap as they used everyone else's bike at the time.

If in doubt have the job done properly. That was when I got really shocked at how poor the original paint was.

I disagree, I think you're unlucky or use salt as a cleaning agent - have seen loads of Mk II's without rust on the rear sub frame and generally in good condition paint wise. Have a look in a dealers second hand stock next time you're perusing.
