:D Happy days, finally bought a GS. Went for a long ride with my regular pillion before hand to check out whether she liked it or not. Obviously got the nod but I would like to try and solve a problem from the start.

She complained about the vibration from the pillion position coming through seat, pegs and grab rail. Now the bike we rode probably needed a decent service as it was the regular test ride bike but still I'd like to make sure I can sort any problems.

Anyone out there experience this and any suggestions. At the moment I suspect best solution is to mount the footpegs and grabrail on rubber mountings of some sort.

Timbo,

What year is your bike?

My wife has a problem with the vibration through the left pillion footpeg on my 2000 1150GS, which I suspect is caused by the fact that the exhaust is mounted on the footpeg hanger in 3 places without any kind of damping.

At some later date BMW changed the exhaust mounting to a single rubber damped stud from the footpeg hanger, which may help the situation.

The way to tell easily which mounting you have is look at the number of bolts going into the exhaust itself at the mounting point. 6 bolts means an older mounting, 4 bolts means a newer one.

According to my dealer there should be no problem changing the mounting if that looks to be the snag - the new bracket (4 hole one) costs about £33.

As for the grabrail, when you mount your topbox you probably won't have one anyway :)

Thanks for that. Have not taken delivery yet and I didn't ride the bike I've bought. Just thought I'd better start doing the reseach now in case the problem recurs. The bike's less than a year old so I suspect there may be no problem.
