Guys i have got a lowered factory suspension 1200gs.I dont usually carry pillions, but the sister inlaw is home from australia and wants to go on the back.

So was wondering if this is correct, do i put the back tyre upto 42psi at the rear and turn the suspension knob clockwise to its maximum to take the weight.

I am about 100kg and she is about 65kg

any help appreciated

Ignore the lowered bit, it isn't really relevant to preload.

I have some experience of this problem and found the stock springs to be inadequate for pillion riding so replaced with Hyperpros (who also do a lowering kit) but if carrying a pillion is failry rare for you then the tyre pressure increase and maxing the preload is correct. You might also want to make sure the rear rebound is around 1 1/2 turns from maximum.

Are the weights quoted in your gear?

Put the rear up to 44psi and have the front tyre no more that 36psi If you have the rear too low it will heat up and cup. I run my adventure at these tyre settings all the time on the road single or two up riding.

Around 42-45psi in the back is about right. Wind the preload up to max then back a couple of turns but it's really not that sensitive.
