Pin of horror

The bike has a solid history and has done 45000 miles. It was spotless inside with very little wear.I took the sump off to chech the oil screen and all was good. No debris at all.
Previously, Castrol GP10/40 seems to have been used. You can see the issue with the tappets. Not sure if this is oil related or not. Ive used Rock oil 20/50 for the 2 years Ive owned it but will be using the high zinc Valvoline from now on.

I admire your perseverance in doing it the way you have,
However, given the state of those cam followers I’d definitely want to inspect the oil pump and rotor housing, given that the pump is picking up unfiltered oil.
I’d also drop the big end caps off to check that there was no damage to the bearings.

Solid oil pressure coming up the studs to the rockers and perfect main bearing surfaces, so I assume the oil pump is fine.Maybe next time. The sump was absolutely spotless and minimum filings on the magnetic sump plug..only the pin 😁

Tappets on my Le Mans looked very much like those. No idea why, everything else, bar one big end, was immaculate. The big end shell was completely bolloxed.

Rebuilt it and it’s now lovely. Hope it lasts another 47 years, though I doubt I will.
