Guys, I received an e-mail from a German guy, who read my comments on some complaints service I ergistered with. I tried to e-mail it to the administrator to get it posted. But it failed, server said something about sending as a zip file, too hard for me. But, the contact address is [email protected] apparently. I have forwarded my comments, and would ask you to do likewise.
If someone wants to explain how I can forward the whole article in computor illiterate terminology, then please do so.

AFAIK VOSA started enquiries with BMW Motorcycles to establish whether or not there is an issue that they can take forward under the terms of the Code of Practice on Motorcycle Safety Defects.

The Code defines a safety defect as 'a feature of design or construction liable to cause a significant risk of personal injury or death'.

For action under the terms of the Code to be justified, the defect must be clearly established a number of machines must be affected and sold for use in the UK.

According to an Automotive Engineer (VOSA, Defects Investigation) VOSA received a communication from BMW which makes "a case for there being a lack of knowledge within the motorcycling fraternity."

They [BMW] are publishing an article in the BMW Club journal (Marchedition, but it might go over to April).

The article covers the concerns that riders have raised.

I was told by my BMW dealer that any failures like this have to be logged & reported to BMW.

Also a friend in the quality department of a contractor to the car industry told me the same. So hopefully the more failures there are, the more likely that it is that some action will be taken.

Not that I really want more failures!!!!!??????

That's right. First question is, if they really do what they should report. Second question is, what's the real number of failures right now.

AFAIK there have been 21 servo failures admitted by BMW, and 'hundreds' of failures that cannot be reproduced. You could read that in TOURENFAHRER 02/05 in the interview. I assume that press date of the interview was about 18th of December (DIE WELT was writing about the same number). So, since then there are about nearly two month gone by.

Indeed the failure of DUTCHMAN ("NO FEKKIN' BRAKES.....", "I didn't notice the rapidly flashing 'brake failure' light") makes the number at least 22, and I have personally seen in Germany the next failure, that makes 23. So – what's the real number? And what's about the 'hundreds' of strange failures? Moreover I was really very concerned reading this in detail

Due to wear of pumps and relais and other influences such as loose ground connections there will be more failures in the future. You'll see.
