Please, someone confirm this for me!

I used to be on f650.co.uk when I had my Funduro, and remember well claims of 55-60mpg average consumption from the newer bikes..... mainly cause mine did about 35

But 70 is probably pushing it just a wee teeny tiny bit :nono

My mate and his wife have been away doing a Pan American trip (now completed) on 650 GSs'. They obviously weren't out to set any land speed records, but both bikes have averaged between 60 and 70 mpg easily.

Guess it all depends on how they're ridden. :thumb

For the record, I in no way, rag the tits off mine. As a safe and responsible rider I beg to differ!

I appreciate if your heavy handed on the throttle you can expect poor MPG!

But really…..70mpg….. come on. :nenau

70mpg

Not sure why so many people are surprised by the 70mpg claim!

I have an '03 Dakar and on A roads at 60-70 mph, accelerating fairly hard (i.e. not particularly caring about how high the revs go but not wringing the nuts off of it), I used to get around 68mpg.

Now that I have heavy panniers, when fully loaded, I get around 63-4mpg but that's going 80-90 on the motorway (in Europe, of course). If I took it easy at 60 on A roads, I think it would be good for 250 miles on 17 litres.

Try one of the free calculators like this and see what you get:

Because they're used to cars giving you 35 - 40mpg. Its been over 2 years since I sold my Dakar (so I can't remember the exact mpg) but I do remember it was a lot higher than what I'm getting now from a 1150 Adventure.

re 70 mpg

Er...both myself and my partner have 650 gs's and on a recent tour of the West coast of Scotland both bikes averaged between around 70- 75 mpg.....they are both older models so not of the twin spark variety and they give marginally better consumption than that !!
So, yes,the claims for the 650 doing 70 mpg are definitely right! :thumb

Use to regularly get that sort of mpg on my Dakar when I had it.

Even managed 82mpg when I did a 200 mile ride at 60mph all the time one day!!!!!!!!

'bout the only time I rode it at 60 tho :D

Was recent in early june 1/2nd as i was following two 650 gs's into durness,
on my 1200.

I cane mine all over the place and rarely get less that 65mpg. When I`m enjoying the scenery I can get 78mpg....It actually makes swapping for another bike very hard as nothing else seems to approach it for mpg.

well my twin spark ....

130 miles per day commute (mostly M1/M25)
17 tooth front sprocket

79mpg

perfect

I've just completed 4 days in Scotland totalling 1250 miles on my 2000 model F650GS. I was riding with 11 other guys on various bikes from a Hyabusa to a 600 Bandit so I was obviously on the slowest and least powerful bike there. Got upto 7000 revs in top at 108mph indicated on more than 1 occasion, spent most of the time above 85mph and still averaged 60mpg. I double and triple checked the petrol receipts as I couldn't believe it. Well pleased :) .

Just traded my Dakar in for a R1200GS and checking my fuel spreadsheet averaged 66mpg. That is with virtually no commuting, a bit of motorway and lots of A/B road runs!

not sure why

Derm and I both ride our 650s around London and have done the PWA (Dry run and actual run) with 1400 miles each time and in most traffic (even in London) we average around the 70-75mpg......they are GREAT!!! :clap !! GEt one!!! :D

I have been keeping records of my 2003 650 GS (not Dakar) from the beginning and now that I have over 22000 Km. on the clock, I can tell you the AVERAGE Fuel consumption is still around 64 Mpg and I use my bike mainly to commute and on winding hilly roads :rob

On any trip longer than 100 Miles, I normally and easily get 70 Mpg or more and......I am not too easy on the throttle.

Great bike when it comes to running costs :bow

So it must boil down to you having a 'bad one'. :nenau

I often got 50mpg from my 1150GS until I checked the speedo and found it was 10% optomistic.
