the tank doesn't look standard, it looks much nicer..., what is it? looks bespoke aluminium, or has the original just been wrapped in bacofoil?

Aftermarket tank from Italy using CRF450 plastics. Does make the bike feel smaller and easier to hustle around the woods or track when in supermoto trim. Here's a better pic with new tank.

Ooops so it is. It's one of those things that every time I fit a chain I have to think hard as to which way it goes. Closed end towards direction of travel?

Yep!
