Plugging in a heated Vest

I have just bought the old style BMW heated vest.

the plug into the accessory socket has to go, hardly elegant having the wire dangling down to next to my boot. So I have been looking for a better way to plug in..

I like the look of a little connector from RS, but its got a limit of 8A.

Does anybody know what the current draw of the vest is. (if you do, why???)

....and the B*W vest pulls 300 Watts at the higher setting?


Taking that 12 volts x 8 amps = 96 watts?

Nope....... you are going to need a bigger one.

I've seen kettles and hair-dryers that draw less than that!!

More like 50 watts (4 amps)

I've just checked - the BMW vest draws 3.5 amps max.

Ralphy & me just fitted the John Deere tractor sockets on the plastic bit just in front of the tank. Fitting is really easy (though you will need to buy an in-line fuse as well) and the cost is low. The sockets are stamped Britax so I'm sure you could get them from places other than a John Deere tractor dealer.

I must admit, I hadn't though of John Deere tractors as an obvious source for electrical connector - silly me..
