I have just found a site to download points of interest in my case french camp sites however, there is a choise of file type GARMIN POI BMP or GARMIN POI CSV. Not sure if the 2610 I have would use which type or indeed both?
Can anybody help ??

The BMP file is just the relevant icon for the class of POI you've selected, not used on the earlier Garmins. The CSV data isn't, in it's native format, any good for the 2610. To upload to your unit you'll need to import the POI data into Mapsource and upload them as way-points. Be aware that the 2610 can only hold 500 custom way-points (POI in up to date para lance), these have nothing to do with route nodes unless of course you define one as a via-point on a route.

Mapsource will accept .gdb and .gpx files amongst others but not .csv. You need a utility to convert the CSV to either of these. I looked at GPS Babel (the on-line version) but this cocked up the conversion putting all the campsites in Africa, I'm assuming that it got the long/lat confused which would be easy too solve but I ran it through ITN Converter which did a 'proper job' although it created a route of some 145,000 miles between all 544 campsites, what a tour! :D Deleted the route to be left with the way-points. Have now saved it as a Garmin .gdb file.

File is here > http://www.cwilder.co.uk/gps/camping_fr_gdb.asp

You'll need to pick and choose, only uploading what you need as there are too many for the 2610. Wouldn't have thought you'll be visiting them all anyway...
