Allihies again.. but off to Asia soon....
I keep getting a pop-up which is starting to pee me off trying to sell me a patch to update my windows. Very pro in that it leads you to believe that it is a MS download but infact it is not and they try to sell me a product to update my windows.

How can I stop it appearing. I do not have to be in the explorer for it to popup but just connected to the net.

Assuming youve got XP or 2K disable the messenger service, or visit www.grc.com "Shoot the messenger" for information about this problem.

are you using XP?

If so:

Start
Settings
Control Panel
Administrative Settings
Services

Stop the messenger service.

That should fix it.

If not, let me know what operating system you are using

You can remove a lot of annoying sh|t from your puter with Ad-aware.

Free download here.

Update the program regularly and run it once a week or so, and you'll be able to remove most of the pop-up and advertising stuff.

Cheers,
Michel
