Possible causes for pinking?

@rse!

I don't know what I'm listening to anymore :tears!!

It may be pinking, it may be the throttle body. It is on an off, but for more it seems to have lessened since I made Neil's catcode bypass...

It was noted by some bloke in Santiago that the right hand cylinder is running hotter than the left, (the header was bluer than the opposite side)

I checked the plugs last night but I'm not sure how useful it was as I had run through the town before stopping and then unpacked the bike too, so the engine was hot, but it was not a proper plug chop. May try a propoer one later. Either way the plugs were dark brown (almost chocolate: no idea what that is. It wa NOT light tan!!) and the tips of the side electrodes had a black sheen to them (lean?).

The actual noise still sounds like it comes from the cylinder head rather than the throttle, as far as I can orientate whilst on the move. Its still happens on some occasions and then not on others, so we will see. My personal feeling is that it is as Neil suspects, ie pooerer quality fuel and I will keep treating it as such, until anything says otherwise!

dark brown = pretty rich

black sheen -= oil burning.

..but doing after town riding is no real indication.

make yourself a throttle balancer with some 5mm clear pipe and hyd oil.

at least you'll know whats going on with the balance.
