HI Folks,

I'm about to set up my PMR onto the bike it's a Wintec A80 connecting to a Intaride EVO comm's unit. (basically a full Intaride system)

What I want to do is have the PMR had the handlebars and run the comm cable to the EVO under the length of the tank to the battery where the EVO sits.

My question is will this cause any interference issues ? as far as I know the EVO has interference suspression built in to the software of the unit ? just asking before I start cutting cable's so I get a tidy set up.

cheers

Different kit but I have my radio on a bracket on the right bar, a push to talk button on the left bar (VOX was a pain in the neck) and the cables running under the tank panels to an Autocom under the seat. Transmission and reception are perfect, no noise at all.

Which radio do you use. I've never been able to obtain total silence but that may be because I use in-ear speakers which mean you hear every last little crackle. Mines the older Kenwood model a 3201 I think. I dont know if the newer Kenwood is any better.

I have the Wintec running through an Evo but I have the radio under the seat and hard wired to the bike. The PTT button is on the bars and I use the external antenna, works like a dream.
The only way you are going to know is by trying it, not a big job.
You don't say which bike you have, it isn't on your profile either.

What aerial do you use ? I intend eventually to put the unit in the top box with the Aerial on the lid, I just wasn't too sure how much adjestment I would need to do on the hoof, so intend to mount it on the handle bars for the time being till I get used to the system

You don't say which bike you have

The best one of course a R1150GSA :D

slightly off topic but where abouts did you mount the Evo unit and any photo's for the record of your set up would be good

cheers

The antenna is from Intaride as is the 12v connector for the radio. You shouldn't be making any adjustments on the hoof once you have it set up. Agree a channel with whoever you are riding with, set the volume and that is that.

Where is your Evo mounted? Might be an idea to mount the radio alongside. Mine are both in the tool compartment which I hacked about a little to make them fit. They are both wired to the battery through a fuse and an on/off switch on the bars. No point in sending you a pic as it is a 12GSA.

Don't forget to crank the Wintec up to 2 watts. Cue lots of people to say this is illegal blah blah but how would anyone know or for that matter care :nenau

I use a pair of Alan 456s. My old cheap Binatones did not generate any noise either but the sound quality was crap. I looked at getting expensive Motorolas but could not justify the expense.

The Alans cost £50.00 each plus £20 for a twin charger and a set of ni-cads. I specifically wanted to avoid radios that had a "special" battery as I wanted something I could stick some standard AAs in if I could not get to a charger and did not want to power from the bike.

Transmission is very clear, range is good and I have noticed quite a few schools using them.

At the moment I have it in the recess left when you take the tool roll out of the seat so I don't think there would be enough room,( the 1150GSA doesn't have a tool tray like the 1150GS or 12's) but I was never overly happy about it being here, I did try it mounted on top of the battery but it seems to get quite wet there when it starts raining, I maybe have a bit of a poke about next week as I want to wire it into the rear brake light fuse so it'll switch off with the ignition

is there any chance you could show a photo of how you mounted the aerial, whats use to ground the aerial ? bike chassis or is it a floating ground ?

cheers

Ground the aerial? Nope, should I? I can explain how I mounted it very easily but it isn't relevant to your bike so not much point of a pic.
The rear of the luggage rack on a 12 GSA has a couple of holes on the vertical plate on each side, no idea what they are for :nenau I made a bracket to fit the holes out of a bit of alloy angle and bolted the aerial to it pointing downwards. If grounding it makes it better I can do it there easily.
When you have an aerial in your hand then you will see how easy it is to fit, lots of possibilities including the topbox. I did think of moving it there but it works so well I won't bother.
Wiring things directly to the battery through a fuse and a switch is a better option than wiring into the stoplight IMHO. When I am riding alone I don't switch the comms on.
The Wintec radios are quite robust so if you put it under the seat in a plastic bag I'm sure it would be OK. Mine isn't protected at all, I have only been in the rain once and that was a tropical downpour. Never thought about checking the Evo and the Wintec as they worked continually.
