Powder coating

any body tried powder coating rocker covers rather than painting them stating to look a bit rough after a few winters

how do you prep them looks a bit tricky geting into the fins any easy ways blasting, acid,paint striper or leav it to the powder coaters

anything to look out for with powder i.e. bolt holes getting blocked that sorta thing

Do it !

I had my rocker covers powder coated black two years ago, and they've been fine ever since. Stripping and polishing was all included, and I pointed out the mating surfaces to the operator and these were blanked off, the bolt holes are not critical due to the rubber sealing washers. With hindsight I would send mine to a bike part specific powder coater (look in the comics, particularly the Classic one's), but the process itself works well.

Silk actually !

The operator asked me what finish I wanted and I went for silk (just like emulsion), as pictured. Gloss and Matt were also available.

Just had mine done as well as engine bars and bashplate. Try www.redditchshotblasting.co.uk as they are both bikers and specialise in bike and car restorations. They have also been featured on Sky Televisions "A Bike is Born" with work carried out on a Harley Davidson and Triumph Motorcycles.

Yep, my covers are magnesium ( I know this cos it says on them ), I made a point of talking to Dave about this when I took them in and he told me had done several others before mine. They use different blasting techniques and materials for different metals....er that's about as technical as I can get on the subject.
