Was thinking of tapping into the wires that feed the accessory socket to power my TomTom rider2 and Autocom

Can't think of any negative consequences of doing this ... does anybody know any better?

Cheers

GPS power connection by the handlebar (the one that's taped to the wiring loom there)? I just power my TT ONE with it, but it should be able to handle more.

There are a few threads on this forum that show how to do it.

I wired mine into....

I wired mine into the back of the accessory socket. Shaved off the sheath, soldered the Zumo and Autocom power on and bound up with insulation tape... has been flawless...

... My Autocom was wired to the accesory socket under the seat.

... Advantage - it is switched with the ignition, as is the 'headstock' aux power socket.

... Disadvantage - it has limited power capacity, check the combined Autocom/TT load

... Possibly split the devices, Autocom to under-seat and TT to headstock

... If you're going to plug loads of shit in consider fitting an underseat Centech AP-1 fuse panel directly off the battery, you get them from from Nippy Normans. Trigger a switching relay from the under-seat accesory socket and it'll shut down 5-10secs after you power-off the ignition.

That's where I took mine from...no problems.

You might need to get a gizmo (can't remember the number) from Autocom if you intend to use a BuMW charger, with an Autocom wired in in this manner.

If you do not have the gizmo, the bike detects the open circuit to the Autocom (in essence you are powering it with the charger, as well as charging the battery) and it shuts down.

No such problems using the much simpler Optimate.

One thing to have regard to, which may or may not bother you - if you wire off the aux socket, and use a battery charger through the aux socket, it will fire up any accessories you've plugged in at the same time.

This happened to me when I wired my Autocom into the back of the aux socket.

NOG subsequently wired it into the live feed on the indicator circuit.

Thanks for all those who have replied.

I have connected into the positive feed of the aux socket and ran the negative wire directly to the battery.

If I use a charger at a later then I'll add a switch to isolate the accessories.

Cheers Guys

Andy
