Just been nosing on Jaythros thread in the fs&w. He`s doing a grand job getting power sockets for tossers. My question is ..... is it doable to mount a female socket on the outside of a pannier then have a double ended male piece of wire to plug in to the power supply? and then how would you connect your desired piece of electronica inside the pannier to the inside of the female connection. Am I on a gibbering ramble or has any body done something like it?

Was trying to suss a smart way of charging my laptop up whilst in the pannier.

done it

I've done it. I've put a T'tech cig lighter socket in my top box. It's powered from the side accessory socket and I use it to charge Ipod; phone; camera or whatever. It's very useful!

Will

It's not permanently wired to the accessory socket.......... it's connected using a plug so I can plug other stuff in the external socket as nec.

It's great because you can safely charge stuff up while you're away from the bike.

Will, yeh but how did you route the wire into the pannier? I was wondering if theres a way of doing it so that it can just be unplugged when the panniers come off if you know what I mean..... using the bm type sockets .. :nenau

edit: spose it would mean putting two females back to back in some way!

Calling Flip

he's done something like this to get power into his tank bag.

Hi Bronco

I have power into my left hand pannier.

Removable flexible power lead which i plug into the power supply by my left boot (R1150GSA). Goes into a waterproof bulkhead connector which has a double ciggi power point inside the pannier. When not needed it has a plastic cap over the external terminal.

All the bits are from Powerlet in the states.

Hope that helps
