Hi All,

I know BMW will sell me an extension from the existing power socket to be sited at the front of the bike.

Just wondering if anyone knows if it is available to order online at all, or do I have to visit my dealer?

If anyone knows the part number - that would be helpful too :)

Thanks,

Leon

Here you go 71607699889 I ordered from Cotswold BMW, they always give me a discount and I get the part delivered within 48 hours. email them at [email protected] and they will give you a price shipped

.....further, some dealers seem more interested in doing mail order than other dealers. Cotswold aren't even a bike dealer but they seem very keen to help. I have bought loads of bike and car parts from them and always get great service and a good price.

Jon,

Thanks for that - do you happen to have a picture of what it is that you get ?

I saw this post which shows the splitter cable (enough for what I need), but just want to be 100% clear on what it is I am buying :)

Thanks,

Leon

Yes, that looks like the cable. It also comes with the socket and a templet for drilling! I know you can get aftermarket, cheaper kits but the BMW stuff just fits so nicely!

I still have some of these power sockets and matching plugs available quite likely for much less that even Cotswold can do them for!

As far as your Y cable that is usually for 1150 models as they had an auxiliary powerpoint on the starter cover You unplugged the loom to it and plugged in the extension cable

R1200 are canbus system and you need specific items to plug in e.g. the charger If you do not use a canbus type charger the system shuts this socket down after 30 seconds or so. If you try to boost the bike through the socket or use a heated vest the system detects too much load and shuts the socket down.

What you are better doing is running a twin core cable back to the battery with an inline fuse in the +ve wire close to the battery as possible This means you can use a standard battery trickle charger to keep the bike topped up

I hope that is helpful to you ?

These are the bits that I sell

Thanks for the info DrFarkoff.

What I'm wanting to do at the moment is provide a power point for mobile phone charging up front, and wanting to use positap connectors on the extension to wire in a Starcom. The socket at the front is a nice bonus, but really I wanted to use the positap on the extension, rather than the main loom - makes removing it later a whole lot tidier.

I've been quoted a few pence shy of £50 from one dealer - will probably try another couple for the best price.

I have a pair of Dr Farkoff's sockets. They are solidly made, the plug wont shake loose and all they need is a two core flex to the battery with fuse to protect the new wires. Total cost even if you have to buy a pack of crimp eyelets cant be more than £15 and you get a spare socket.

I didn't know they were a bike dealer - always bought my car parts from them and then asked if they could do bike parts and they said sure - but never said they sold bikes. Perhaps I should have asked!

To be fair; Cotswold Cheltenham are a car dealership, & Hereford for that matter. The Gloucester dealership is also Motorrad. In the near future the Cheltenham & Gloucester branches will re-locate to one new location, just off Junction 11 of the M5.

I had the expensive BMW piggy back socket on my old bike, complete with 5 amp can bus regulated limit. Current bike has one of the good Dr's din plugs at a mere fraction of the price, fused at 7.5 amps from my under seat fuse panel so I can run an air pump if need be.
