My 2004 1200GS had a power socket by the headstock that I could plumb my Zumo 550 into. I've just replaced the bike with a 2008 1200GS but am unable to find a socket anywhere around the headstock -if there is such a socket please could someone post a photo or two so that I can find it?

Well I looked high and low for my socket in the vicinity shown in Thunder's photo, even taking the photo out to compare. Mine is in a different place, immediately behind the oil cooler

Got there in the end.

No, its a 2008 GS, and the plug was a right sod to get to, it couldn't be in a more awkward place and there it's only on a short length of cable back to the loom

Now that is interesting, looks like the socket is in different positons on some bikes, I know from feedback from some GSA owners that it was near the oil cooler, seems like BMW are making things more complicated than before. :blast

It's a bit of sod to get to on the GSA (and later GS possibly?) partly because it is attached with sticky tape - trying to cut that while not slashing the rest of the wiring was fun - especially in a dark garage with one hand holding a torch :)

Thought I recognised my handy work :D

Wish I'd found that thread/photo before I wasted an hour the other night looking around the headstock, horn area. Thankfully I searched and found it before starting to remove the tank etc :thumb2

The tape on mine had come undone which made it easier for me to spot, otherwise I'd have had the loom apart by now!

Thanks everyone for your responses but it's beaten me! I've searched high and low for the socket but have failed to find it. I've had the side panels off and gone over the whole thing with a torch but can see nothing that looks like a socket.

I'm off to North Oxford Garage this afternoon to ask someone to point to it for me. If that fails I'll buy a plug off them to plug the Zumo into the accessory socket behind my left leg below the seat.......if there's any reason why it shouldn't work from that socket please let me know.

Only 7 days until I leave for Norway so I'm just starting t get a bit desperate!
