For some weird reason we are tunnelling rather than ferrying to Europe this year, so all the familiar meeting points, cafes & filling stations are on the wrong road

Can anyone tell me a good place to set as a meeting point between Folkstone & Dartford. Petrol, full English & decent coffee are all essential

Many thanks

Let Maidstone Services be your friend.

There's agood services the junction before you turn off for The Tunnel, petrol etc all available, alternatively fill up here and use the food hall at the tunnel.

As far as I am concerned....which I am not... the best pre tunnel meeting point is somewhere near Newcastle...that way the tedium of the southern motorway/trunk road system can be avoided completely....I am never doing it again. Hope that helps:D

Be grateful you don't live in this particular corner.

We stayed at the Premier Inn North, in Ashford overnight (travelled 280mls).
It put us in easy striking distance of the tunnel first thing in the morning.

It would also act a good meeting point for riders in the south east. Decent sized hotel carpark,
attached Beefeater resteraunt for brecky, and an Esso garage opposite.
It's on the A20, only a stones throw from the M20 jct.9.

I have used the services @ J11 M20 as a meeting point, 1 junction before the tunnel and convenient for the ferry too.

Tesco, junction before Folkestone services, petrol 10p a litre cheaper, not that I am tight!

Think you are getting your Premier Inns mixed up.
The one that is opposite an Esso station is 3 miles from Jct9. The one that is right next to Jct9 has got a Beefeater, MaccieD, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Cineworld on the same estate, but no petrol. You need to go to Sainsburys for that. We do have a lot of Premier Inns in Ashford for some strange reason...
For a good meeting point try the Airport cafe on the A20. Come off the M20 at J11, head back towards Ashford and Sellindge on the A20, (ignore the services at J11 except for fuel). The Airport Cafe is about 3 miles up the road on your right, just before Sellindge. If you get to some traffice lights you have gone about 100m too far. Good transport cafe serving all sizes of fry ups. Fill up on the day back at the services. It will probably be 10p/litre more expensive than anywhere else so should be less than £2 more a fill.
Maybe we should open a bikers' stopover with flop room and all day ( and night) breakfast, if the EU blocks our escape to France.

I guess you are crossing via the QEII bridge?

On the north side of the river, you could rendezvous at Thurrock services. Fuel and food available.

After crossing, I assume you'll be taking the M20? The most convenient stopping points (just off the motorway) are Maidstone services and the large Shell station / waiting point at Junction 11, five minutes up the motorway - when coming from Essex - before arriving at the Chunnel junction.

If you want to find a full on greasy spoon cafe for your tip-top breakfast or some other restaurant, other than those you'll find at Thurrock, Maidstone or at Junction 11 and find fuel you'll have to be more inventive. You could for instance deviate away to Bluewater or trundle into say Maidstone or Ashford, finding the suggestions listed above. Will they all be open? Some or all of these will depend on what time it is that you intend to rendezvous with your chums and indeed how far away from the M20 you are prepared to travel in search of four rashers, two eggs, double sausage, black pudding, mushrooms, tomato, baked beans, fried slice, toast and the obligatory mug of brew.

A Google of 'transport cafe M20' turns up some ideas. Form a working group as a part part of your committee of committed Adventure (with a capital A) travellers and have them create a suitable list of locations, timings, availability of fuel and the like. I'd recommend a spreadsheet.
