Quick Greetings to all,
Well, as a biker of Japanese sport bikes for 29 years I took a ride on a Southport Superbikes R1200GSA a couple of weeks ago .. .. .. POW! I was sold.
The very next day I placed an order for a 'full-spec' Triple Black.
I've now had it for a week and have done 300 miles only (work commitments spoil the riding fun) - plus the miserable bas**rds have started gritting the roads again over the last 3 nights )
My previously loved ZX10R has been resigned to the back of the garage and is currently up on eBay along with a multitude of carbon goodies.
I'm loving the GS soooOOO much, I’m kicking myself that I’ve WASTED the last few years following the route of big BHP and ever tinyer (is that a word?)sports bikes with their 'fag-packet' sized pillion seats (my Girlfriend is very, VERY grateful her tender rear is being pampered, for a change)
The do-it-all, swinging, thunderous, unhurried bellow of an R1200GS with it's heated grips, sumptuous seat and ESA was obviously a hidden secret you were all keeping away from the rest of us, but ha ha ha your secret is out.
The R1200GS is just phenomenal, all those 'boring BMW' statements are cobblers, this is simply one hell on a machine.
It didnt take long to get used to this 'odd-ball' bike - I’m loving every moment of ownership and plan to keep in for the long foreseeable future.
The fun of biking is back - I’m riding around with a gormless grin on my face

:thumb2 Now turn off the ASC and go find some baby hump back bridges ... ;)

Hi.

Glad you love it.

I didn't get to ride mine enough last year due to work.

Now you can start buying goodies for it. May I suggest a Crud Catcher. He even does a Triple Black version. It really does protect the front of your engine.

Cruddy Catcher & bits

Miff, went to Rivington Barn today (a local bikers haunt in my area) and was eyeing up the GS's with varying bits of gadgetry on.
A crud catcher sound like a sensible buy - i just want to keep away from going down the route of bolting any old Halfords TAT to it ! (ala Goldwing members)
But, yeah , a few sensible mod's will deffo be coming my way soon
Saw a guy with a triple black, reg ****YAK (lots of Scandinavian sticker on his ali panniers and a UKGSer's sticker) any idea's who ???
Anyway, hello to him & you.

Funny thing is i had the demonstartor on the back wheel with 25 miles of riding it - bl**dy good fun and such a well balance bit of kit, allround

I too was on sports bikes for 20 years; got my GSA 12 2 years ago and have never looked back...:D

As for 'extras'....if you have plenty of money, the worlds your oyster...TT, Twalcom, Cymarc, Rugged Roads, HiD's....:blast

Whilst there's a lot of Ewan and Charlie wannabe accesories that are pretty pointless, it is worth getting (as miff said..) a crud catcher and an oil cooler grill protector. I have two bloody huge dents that have been lucky not to pierce the cooler system. (And me head light has a crack in it ... :blast)

Welcome to the wonderful world of the GS and glad you are enjoying your new steed. Hunting down sportsbikes will now become a great game:augie

Pop round to Adventure Bike Warehouse in Manchester www.adventurebikewarehouse.co.uk and have a look at the goodies you could have and let Jonno set your bike up perfectly:D

I raced club level and then National level in the mid to late 80's, so to be honest i could 'hunt em down' in my old Navara from what ive seen as a standard of riding in my area.
I've Raced RD250LC's, RD350LC's, YPVS, FII Power Valve & an open class Yoshi GSXR1100.
But your right the handling is sublime and ive already had it 'off-the-tread' and i've only owned it for 300 miles  (i think its be best handling bike i've owned - seriously, its so confidence inspiring)

This guy was sticking 'flyers' on BM's and adventure styled bikes at Rivington Barn today - i nicked one, and it looks like an 'Aladins Cave' of goodies !

Anyone know how i add an image to my postings ?? - sorry for being so lame !
