I lived in Sant Cugat, about 8 miles east of Barcelona for a couple of years so sort of round that way. We are strongly considering moving back down there at the moment.
Weather is great .... far nicer than Cheshire but you still get proper seasons. Heaps of places to ride tracks in the region and it's pretty easy to hook up other trail riders to go and explore.
Healthcare might be an issue (cost). Unless you are employed by a Spanish company private insurance is the only real way to go at about 250 euros a month for a good family policy.
Cars and bikes cost more but it's pretty easy to personal import your own vehicles from the UK without much cost.
If you can't speak Spanish then the Open University course is well worth a look but beware the official language is Catalan so be prepared to learn a bit of that as well. We went knowing a bit of restaurant Spanish and within a few months we'd kinda got tha hang of it enough to get by with out too much drama.
