So I bought some of the BMW 650 expandable panniers for my bike.. But, it didn't come with any instructions how to expand them, or anything like that.
So if anyone could tell me how to use the expanding mechanism? I dont want to break them.

Yes, I know, big :blast :nenau

Does timmy rules apply on this part of the forum? :pullface

Thanks

Assuming they are the same as the ones I had on my 800GS they there's a bar in the paiiner which you pull :thumb

Haven't looked at those specific panniers, but if they're anything like the Varios for the 1200s and 800s, open the pannier and there's a U-shaped rod running along one side and hinged on the short side. Pull this rod towards you and the pannier should start to expand. Continue to pull the rod, and move it through 180 degrees until it folds down into the opposite side to which it was originally. It should "click" into its final position.

If you can follow the above, great.

If not, an adult should be along shortly to give a better explanation... :blast

If they're for the 650 single, there's a catch at each side, inside the pannier that you need to release. You can then expand the panniers by pulling/sliding the two halves apart and click the catch back in to lock them in position - It a big yellow thingy, if my memory serves me well..

Yup, it's for the single.
I'll pop out to the garage and grab one, i'll take some pictures if I cant work it out.

Thanks for the replys, let's hope I don't break them

Oh I did it, I think they were alittle stuck, put my foot inside, push and they popped open.

Thanks for the help, now they look like they can actually fit more then just a 6pack in.

and i bet you paid silly money for them too.

the hinges break very easily, and are usually bodged up by the owner
they dent very easily
the carrying load is not great

I think you should stop assuming, because you just make your self look like a true arse.

£50 for them. Thanks, i think, well. Sorry I know, 10% of the price of brand new...

Yes the aluminium damage easily. But, luckly for me, i'm not a twat that just uses them for show and as a status symbol, I don't care if they damage, things that get used do.

Oh, while your been a ****, please find me a pair of panniers, with waterproof BMW insert bags, for £70 and I will give you a ******* cookie.

Had mine for 2 years, they were fine..sold them on with the bike.

I never actually used mine expanded as I found them large enough to carry all I needed.

Hinges fine.
No dents.

Maybe if you value what you've worked hard to pay for it lasts longer?

:)
