Hi guys,

done a search on panniers, found loads of problems with delivery dates but not much on cost of options for panniers to add to a 1200GS (not adventure). Can anybody help with UK prices for the standard BMW items, - and suggest any others (with prices) that can cope with the exhaust?

Metal Mule

Why not call paul at metal Mule. Brilliant panniers, brilliant service and while your at it have the can changed for a slimmer set up. I am on my 2nd set brilliant bits of kit, very strong and easy to take on and off.........just dont understand anyone bothering with flimsy OE systems :D :D

thanks for that info, - looks like metal Mule start at £500 a set, - just down the road from me as well, - and as I picked up the GS today this is no longer just a day dream! BUT nothing to compare those with, - 89 views and nobody can give me prices on the BmW system? Any other ideas for a newbie to the GS world?

Choice

Go see Paul at Metal Mule.or speak to our own Vern' who makes mega boxes !! Whatever you choose they will be better than OE ones :D Not forgetting Jesses.but as your so close go see MM :thumb

MM £500? the cheapest i worked it out to was closer to £700, have you included the price of frames?
or am i being a muppet?

Stock panniers work fine for me. Only need to carry fresh skiddies & sox, my hair dryer, special soap for my delicate skin, shampoo (cos Hilton's & Marriott's sux) & my laptop........

Have a look at the FAQ section on panniers systems for some comparisons.

You won't find prices because it would soon be out of date plus and the prices vary so much according to specs and available discounts.

that's better, thanks guys :) I just needed a bit of attention, us newbies like to feel wanted.

It looks like I might have the BMW fastenings on the bike, ummm.

UK spec bikes already have the pannier mounts fitted on the R1200GS.

BMW motorrad insurance (via Devitts) includes standard BMW panniers in the bike cover, so them's the ones for me (eventually).

ps, Hello Ian916. Does that mean you had/have a Ducati?

sshh, don't tell anybody but I have had a few Ducati's, - and been somewhat involved with running a Ducati owners club for a few years now. I have a Multistrada 100DS in the garage right now sitting next to the GS, - given the amount of journey's that involve motorways in this country and the more suitable GS for that job it could be bye bye numptystrada :( - just need to find a mint 900 Superlight, perhaps an SS to give me the Ducati fix.

Thanks for the info on the Devitt insurance, - yep insured with them yesterday as they appear to be the only people to recognise the BMW fitted alarm/immobiliser.

You are not being a muppet! Balanced MetalMule pannier system, 38L panniers either side, pannier brackets, slim Scorpion exhaust, and not forgetting the top rack = £1,100 - and I willingly spent every penny! In fact, I'm fitting them tonight! Great service. Definitely recommended. :thumb

Not strictly true, the earliest 2004 UK spec models (like mine) didn't and I had to fork out £136 for two bits of plastic to hang the panniers from. Even with trade discount my panniers still cost nearly £500 including fitting. If I had known then what I know now, I would've bought the Tonkatech 'Zega' alloy type instead for around the same outlay.

Obviously the later UK bikes come with the ridiculously overpriced mounts fitted as standard (realistically they probably add a tenner to the value of the bike).

Quality ,
