I’m moving house and need to thin out...

These two bikes have been sat in a lock up for years the Rocky Mountain I don’t think has been used in 20 years maybe longer. I’ve kept them because I’m a bit of a hoarder but they need to go - But where to start, what price should I expect.

I bought the Rocky Mountain from a Canadian who recently moved to the UK c1987 he was a friend of the MD and apparently this was his personal bike a pre production of the Stratos which has all the best equipment for the time. XT and Durace hubs, Richie forks and a beautifully made stem.

It went from being my race bike to carrying a kiddie seat to towing a tag along.

What’s it worth?

The other bike is my old Downhill bike from c1998 - I think it was c£2000 back then.

I’d originally had one of the first Marin Mount visions which I sold to a friend who sold to a friend who bought it back and sold to another friend who I know and still uses it! The pivot point was supposed be guaranteed for life and that mount vision is perfect and it’s the same for this bike.

It was well spec'd with XTR and XT - I did wonder if it would make a good eBike conversion

Again, any views on what it’s worth. I’ve had a quick look on retro bikes but you need to FS with a price

Some retros fetch silly money and the silliest seem to be classic Italian brand road bikes. I’m not sure your MTBs are going to be the most sought after; eBay as usual is a good guide if you look at actual sale, as opposed to asking, prices. Sorry, not too helpful, just trying to manage expectations. GLWS

The Rocky Mountain will be worth more than the Marin, it's got some desirable 'retro' components fitted. Maybe £80-£100 as it stands, worth more in parts, but would be a shame to break it. (Deore thumbshifters would probably fetch £50!). I'd be inclined to give it a good clean, new cables, brake blocks etc & put it on Retrobike at £150. The Marin is probably too modern to be considered retro, I picked up a similar year Rift Zone last year for £50. Hope that helps. (Downhill bike? 100mm travel? how things have changed!)
Chris.
