Got the Garmin MapSource City Select European Version 5 cd with the GPS from Staples.

When I try and install Mapsource I get an error message

Autorun is selected and it doesn't, so try and run "setup.exe" from the cd drive.

Whirry stop-start noises from the cd drive. I know it's not the drive as I've used lots of other cd's just to check.

I get the following message;

"E:\Setup.exe is not a valid Win32application"

So I try using the "instmsiw" thing type icon ('puter literate me :D) and get;

"Wrong OS or OS version for application"

I have a copy of Garmin Mapsource Worldmap which goes on no problems at all.

:confused:

I had this when installing a version five upgrade disc (which had worked fine on an earlier PC).

Got in tough with Garmin, who having failed with several other suggestions sent me a full version 5 CD (works on same code) which had no problems!

Interesting......I had the same prob with mine....it worked though when i swapped the disc into the cd/writer rather than the cd/dvd drive.....

I wasn't impressed with the design of the auto installation bit.......it came up with errors rather than requests for the next disc and seemed to be an afterthought rather than an integral bit of the software.

Ah well.....roll on V6 mapsource.......Garmin say they still havent got them in yet but they are on their way (From phone call yesterday, the 14th)

:(

I'm using a cd-writer drive. I've got a normal cd-drive. I'll plug that n and see what happens...........:(

Still getting the same problem :(

Any other ideas :confused:

speak to Garmin I suppose........................

I'm sure you'll get a new CD from Garmin at simple request. They are very helpful generally.

You could test it in another pc first, to make sure. Or you can borrow a CD from somebody else maybe.

Cheers,
Michel

'course it would have helped if I'd used the blue "set-up" cd-rom that you get tucked away in the box..................

with a sticker saying "IMPORTANT - Use this before City Select".....................:rolleyes:

:banghead:

jerkit
