Hi.

This may sound daft, but when I took the oil filler cap off today to put some fresh oil in , the 'insert' in the engine came out still attached to the cap.:blast

I've separated the two and cleaned the insert. It seemed to have a smear of blue sealant which peeled off. The O ring appears in good shape.

I have refitted the insert and it seems OK, it went in with quite a tight push fit, and the oil pressure light on the dash goes out as it should when I started the engine.

So all I need to know is - should there be sealant applied when the insert is refitted? Can I expect a leak in the circs I've described? Or am I stressing about nothing, as per normal?

Cheers

Dave.

They tend to go hard with age so a blob of sealant may help but I've never seen the need for it on a good one. Worst case scenario is that it develops a slight leak, more of an inconvenience than anything else.
