I am having problems transferring some digital pics onto CD. The process appears to work ok (CD created successfully message appears for e.g.) but I also get a Unsafe Removal of Device message as well relating to the Yamaha re-writer. I have tried both CD-R and CD-RW discs with the same result.

After all this, the resulting CDs appear to be blank.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

System info: Dell PII, Win2k Prof, Roxio SW, Yamaha CRW8424E CD-R/RW Drive.

Thanks - Ian

My guess would be a problem with Roxio.

In the dim and distant past I had a similar problem - CDs were showing as corrupt or blank, closed sessions etc.

At the time my research found that Roxio can seriously screw up the registry - especially after installing a new version.

I eventually managed to remove it and switched to Nero - not as convienent to use but it seems rock solid.

Many people use Roxio without problems - but on W2K prof I wouldn't touch it.

Are you telling Roxio to burn the CD or just to a test burn? The difference is that the latter flashes the lights on the CD-ROM drive but doesn't actually write anything. I can't remember which option it is in Roxio - probably on the final burn page - because I have changed to Nero.

Roxio software

Telford - PC was recently upgraded with more memory and Win2k Prof inclu new Roxio software!

CM - I'll have another go to make sure I'm not doing just a test burn!

Cheers

have you tried roxio's support section? search for the error message.

you can get nero on trial from ahead.com. that would rule out s/w prob if you get stuck.

I had a similar problem with a Yamaha CRW2100.

One day it would burn CD's (using Roxio s/w) and the next day it wouldn't

Well, I think there may have been an interm state where it burned a CD which was useless.

Still worked as a CDROM. I put it down to crap on the lens which I couldn't shift. PC was getting a bit long in the tooth so I bought a new one

I've still got the drive in the drawer so might try it again in one (of the several  ) old PC's I have littered around me with an updated operating system.

my first burner was a yamaha & it died prematurely too. cost an arm & a leg :(

these are a mere 16 squid & are much better IMO :)

fitted several & use the DVD combo version myself, but that's a heady 26 quid.

Different sw - same problem

Just tested a trial version of Nero 6 with the same result. Guess that points to my drive being somewhat useless!
