ok here we go,
just done a gearbox rebuild, much the same as dragonmaster, all back together after lots of cussing, fired the bike up and the engine's hunting and missing and when it does i hear a wierd chirp almost the same as when a battery dies in a smoke alarm, anyone have any ideas?
while the bike was appart i stripped the ABS system out, could it be anything to do with this?
the gearbox runs sweet btw! but i'm starting to despair!

any help welcome, if anyone suggests buying a KTM belive me i'm very f***ing close!

thanks jez

Throttle cable bottom end not sitting in the adjuster (on the throttle body) often right hand side? its common if the tank has been off, trapped breather?

checked all of those stewart, it's a very difficult sound to pin down it could be electronic though i'm not sure what could make this noise or it could be an unlubricated part squeaking, drive shaft was shimmed correct and with care, just wondering if it needs to be run in a while? anyone had this happen, the paranoia's killing me!

This noise has come up before on the board - But I can't remember how long ago, or what the outcome was. :blast

cheers steptoe, at least someone's heard something similar!
replaced rear crankshaft seal while it was appart, jog any memories? like i said it sqweaks as it misses, or is it missing as it squeaks?, thats whats bothering me, i cant tell which..

Hi Jez,

I'm probably talking absolute crap here, but I've been trying to imagine the noise you describe. Only thing I can think of, have you had your plugs out? If so, are they back in properly? I did once hear the sound of air leaking from a knackered plug thread on compression, it could be said to sound as you describe, and it could explain the missing.

Glad to hear the box is 'running sweet', hope mine does!:D

Neptune is it an 1100 or 1150 with twin or single throttle cable?

My first encounter with this sort of effect was when I took the tank off an 1150 and it dislodged the cable there was a cherp as it quit

For the five minutes it will take just recheck the cables at all end if its a single on maybe it's sitting off on the rear of the left body

a good help on this is check both throttles are closed (on the rear stops) with the throttle closed and choke off IF they're not then you have your answer the cables hung up somewhere

thanks chaps,
i'm off to check this all out now, got to ride to stratford tomorrow to work at the global gathering wknd want to try and ditch this budgie thats living in my bike!

found the chirp

thankyou fellas,
found the culprit, right hand throttle body was just puffing out the smallest burst of blue smoke from the seating, thats what was giving a chirp! gave it a waggle and re-tigtened the clamp and it's gone...what is it with these bikes, for the last 7'000miles it's sounded like a sement mixer, i've off roaded it and generaly abused it and it's run like a dream, spend some money on it and it starts acting up ?..
