Just fitting the new Wilbers to me bike, front one went on real easy and removal of the rear was fine. Came to fit the rear and it is so tight that there must be something wrong?
Located the top mount and put the bolt through loose, when it came to swinging the bottom in, the hole in the shock wont line up with the hole in the arm, I have to seriously push the bottom of the shock towards the front of the bike in order to get it anywhere near it, its binding inside the top of the tunnel somewhere

I do have it the right way round etc and its not the shim in the arm that's stopping it, anyone come across this before? Hellppppppppppppppppp!

Pic shows it needs to go back another 15mm in order to line up?

Stick to whittling pieces of wood and leave the real work to the skilled. :D:D

I'll be fitting a set myself in the next few weeks.

Is the shaft raised up high enough?

When you hold the two shocks side by side are the holes in the same places?

I will be fitting one in a few weeks too - what happens if you fit the bottom end first ? Does the top not line-up at all ?
Also, do you have the shock set on "full height" on the remote adjuster wheel ?

Fixed...done ...sorted...finished!

Had to masking tape the shock up and then sprayed everything in area of shock with graphite powder.
I fitted the shock again and the graphite marked the tape where it was touching.
Firstly the bolt head of the pre load adjuster pipe at the top of the shock was hitting the plastic tunnel, I had to loosen the clamp with C spanner and rotate it to the side.

With that done it went back ok but was still tight, repeated graphite treatment and the top of the shock mount was hitting the frame.
A bit of filing later and the shock fitted just fine. :thumb

So all in all it took 45 mins to fit the front and 4 hours to fit the rear

Had mine fitted today by Roy at RGM and the rear went on without a fuss but make sure you read the manual as the preload reservoir fits to the opposite side to your original which means that where the preload pipe attaches to the top of the shock, it should be facing toward the rear not facing toward the front of the bike.

I watched Roy fit the rear and he connected the top first and then raised and lowered the swing arm as required till the holes lined up.

Which side did you fit your preload reservoir to? you certainly shouldnt be filing anything to make it fit?? it should be under your right leg located just where the footpeg sits. Pic below earlier today while my bike was having the work done (also had the pain in the ass alarm removed too)

The shock was touching the frame (where the arrow points in the pic) Had to file maybe 3-4 mm off to stop the shock binding. If you look at the top of a wilbers its much wider than the standard shock, probably not an issue on 99% of bikes just mine!

I am not surprised:D This sumer when I went to Romania I saw dip holes in to the roads up to my knees:eek:

So did we -tram lines in ruts, truck gouges, and large sections dug up and not replaced -think it didn't help my shock either, so getting Wilbers sometime soon.

Just had the rear fitted to my 1100GS. Brian Giles of BGM did it for me, for free:bow:clap He was very impressed with the quality and it fitted fine, took him 15 minutes tops.

The ride home was sublime, the bike is transformed, best money I've ever spent on a bike:thumb

May go for a front too, but we'll see:augie
