Problem Installing Latest Map 2012.40!

Going away this Friday and so I decided to update my Navigator III with map update 2012.40. I currently have 2012.30. Anyways, it downloaded and installed and told me it was all done (words to that effect) but my Navigator was still showing Data Transfer in operation, so I left it on despite the PC software saying otherwise. Well after a long while nothing had changed so I switched off the sat nav. Now I find the only map on the sat nav is my original 2008 map and no new ones!!! I have been playing around with the garmin software all night but to no avail!

I have since managed to copy back map 2012.30 to my Navigator III. During all this faff I uninstalled the new map 2012.40 in order to redownload it again but whatever I do I am unable to do so as the Garmin Lifetime Updator keeps showing I have the latest map 2012.40 - which I don't!

Can anyone help with this please?

Update:

OK So for some strange reason the Garmin Lifetime Updater decided to download 2012.40 eventually and it's no on my PC viewable in Mapsource! I have since tried to install it on my Navigator III and same thing happens, the software installed and says "completed" but my Navigator seems to remain in - "Transferring Data" mode. A reboot is required but no new maps installed. Anyone know if this is fixable?

Update:

All done. Seems it required more trial and error. I used Garmin Map Install again and it worked this time! What a waste of time this has been - hours!!!

With my nav III I now use the old method as it will not take the whole map any more, it seems easier to get what I want.

Bet you don't do an update again less than a week before you go away. As us long term Garmin users have learnt from bitter experience!

tanks guys just got a 2nd hand streetpilot 2610 with city navi 2009 with no unlock code now all sorted and updated teh device as well

never knew about mapinstall lol



only problem with it it wont run without the mains adaptor / car adaptor so i suspect the battery is duff has anyone disected the 2610 to replace the battery
if so can they forward me some info

2610 doesn't have a battery, you need a bike cradle and power lead.

They're difficult to track down these days as they were discontinued quite a few years ago.

Possibly one here, might be an old page though, happy hunting.

I have one for sale but it comes with a free 2720 StreetPilot and a few other bits and pieces

Yes I managed to buy one like that for my 2nd bike so I could swap sat nav between bikes back in 2010.

yeah i have a cradle and ram plate and arm on order from good old US of A
for a total of 30 bucks quite a saving from over here

its like almost 20 quid per part and 4 parts
