Hi People!

Before I went on my trip to Wales (April) I upgraded my spark plugs to Iridiums. Wanted Denso but got NGK instead. Well, what I find is after a good run, if the bike stalls or if I restart after a short time being off, the bike can't idle and often cuts out if I cruise on idle or stop at junctions for example. It seems to ride OK except idle. Idle just bounces around on the dial. The only thing that fixes the problem is to stop and wait about 10 minutes - probably to cool down - then everything is OK. A local garage bought the plugs so I can't tell you which ones they are except NGK Iridiums

Is this normal?

PS; I have upgraded my other 3x bikes with success with Denso Iridium plugs.

I have NGK Iridiums in my '08 GSA and have had no problems whatsoever for the last 4K miles. Can't help with your problem but perhaps its something else other than plugs.

I would be keen to check the plugs are the correct heat range for the GS engine.

Put the old'uns back in

Put the old ones back and see if fault goes away, sounds unlikely that plugs would cause the concerns you mention.. :comfort

Don't have original plugs, left them at the garage! :blast

My bike has had a custom tune for power commander, plus decat, exhaust change and performance air filter. Been running fine until plugs changed.

I had wondered if they are the correct heat rating but I don't know?

Thinking of going back to originals but what a waste of money!!

Didn't say it was did I?

It is common for people with GSs to change exhaust, air filter and then have a power commander to balance out the fuel to air mixture. Custom tune was part of buying the PC. Spark plugs has improved pickup performance on my other 3x bikes so why would I not fit them on my GS?

I have the exact same set up on my 06 and no problems with the iridium plugs. As you say, the pick up is better. Can't see why the plugs should cause the problem but it may well be worth trying a standard set to see if it is.

Windychuffer, upgrades are not about wanting to make it a sports bike but it's making a good bike into a great bike with better power delivery. You pays your money etc etc:thumb

Have you checked that the plug lead caps are fully fitted? I find that the lower caps on mine are a bit fiddly to push fully home.

But the bike runs fine, only when I stop after a good run and restart soon after do I have this problem. Let stand for 10min and so far it's been rectified.

No it isnt a sports bike, BUT if ridden PROPERLY it can be much better tha a sports bike......

I'll get me coat..

P.S. The plugs issue may be caused by a duff batch. replace retry, then rejoice or rant!!!!

Or rather a sorted one, with the right rider, will embarrass sports bike riders :D

Sorry? Stick coils?

I am assuming that this is a twin spark? these are the coils that fit in pairs to the cylinders to supply the plugs look in the stickys or take it to your bmw dealer.

check everything that you did and then take i to someone who knows what a coil stick is :hide

check plug gaps
check colour of plugs
check lamba colour and plugs
check yourself before you wreckyourself
