Hi there
I just bought some fairly simple fog lights from Halfords and fitted them on my 650GS Dakar '01. I found another thread here with a wiring diagram (somehow I can't find tha upload attachment button) and just started installing them. So far so good. They even work(ed) :)
But then everything went wrong...
I was on a trip last weekend to Delft/Holland and it rained quite hard. No problem there. But after my bike stayed outside over night in the rain the lights didn't work any more... As I did the wiring in a bit of a rush to get them ready for this trip I used rather simple methods to connect the wires instead of shrink wrap for example. So I thought, OK, lesson learnt I will do it properly when I'm back home. But on my way back the bike behaved really strange. Lights (headlights and dash board) were flickering, the speedometer sometimes showed 10-15mph more than the actual speed shown by my GPS and sometimes the engine just died during driving. So I had to stop, reset the electrics with the old ignition off - on - full throttle - ignition off trick. After that it worked again for 30-40m. Finally I made it back to London in one piece.
Long story short, is there anybody in the London area who could give me a hand rewiring the lights properly? I asked my garage guys but they would charge about two hours of work what is about £120... So anybody up for the job and keen on a bottle of proper whiskey or similar? :jeiger

Sounds similar to the problems we had with my wifes Transalp.

There were 2 issues.

Poor earth was one.

Excessive current draw for the alternator!!! was t'other.

Maybe your drawing too much for the alternator or ya battery isn't in great health??

The battery should be fine, it's less than a year old. And up to now I always could restart the bike when I stopped to do the reset. I think earth is one problem...
First of all I will unplug all the connectors to see if everything goes back to normal.
But still any London area based help would be appreciated :)

Typical symptoms of loose battery connections - check that first.
Not relevant to this problem but ign. off - on - full throttle etc. doesn't 'reset the electrics'.To reset the BMS disconnect the battery or remove the connector under the seat, wait a few minutes and re connect.
