has anyone else experienced problems when using the background maps on a gps v? i have found that the unit has real problems with the M5 and absolutely refuses to recognise the A30 beyond Exeter. Also had a few wobbles with the M6 between Birmingham and Carlisle. I haven't loaded up the map-source data for these areas, so as i said, it's using the background mapping, which is meant to be okay for A roads and motorways. At one stage it showed my position as nearly 1 kilometre from the M6 (one of the oldest stretches of motorway in the country!)

Map Set Up

In set up map menu, make sure Lock on Road is selected.

This will help when you are not using Mapsource data and at high zoom.

Also make sure you are running latest system software, 2.08 at present.

cheers

There is an inherent inaccuracy in the base maps of the GPS V - if you're routing, it will often tell you you've gone off-route and tries to recalculate - its caused me no end of grief so much so I turned off the 'off-route recalculation' feature. A great shame as the GPS is perfectly accurate - still the good news was you knew you were on the M6 when it said you weren't so at least you weren't fooled! :D Nah, if you're gonna use the GPS V in this country on roads you need the mapsource detail downloaded :(
