I've recently started to encounter random problems when printing text.
Sometimes it will print perfectly well and other times won't print at all, or will convert the text to Russian, or something similar, looking words.
It seems more likely to have problems when cutting and pasting something from the web compared to text I've typed myself in Word.
New cartridges made no difference.
Windows XP.
Old, but working perfectly until recently, HP Deskjet 710C printer.
Any clues most appreciated, thanks very much.

If you copy and paste into notepad and print does it work ?
If you print from the original source is it OK ?

Cheers

john

With the cost of printers these days it is not worth trying to fix it if the problem is not obvious.

As it is a HP jobbie there should be a "maintenance" option.

Have you tried them all - clean heads etc.

Could be a dodgy printer cable - it is connected tight?

If you have tried everything Staples and Amazon always have something that has been heavily discounted.

Thank you Zoomb.
I have tried all the clean heads, check cables, print tests.
I'll try and get another printer to try but what confuses me here is that pictures and maps print just fine, it's only text that causes any problem.
I'll report back after I get to try another printer.
Thanks again.

I've given up with HP, the printers seem fine, but the printer drivers seem very fragile needing to be reloaded at regular intervals, it normally starts with the printers windows control panel info turning to a 'barcode' after that its just a slippery slope to unusability.

Good luck

Shep

BTW brother do a good laser monochrome combo printer for about £60 (the DCP 7030). It's almost cheaper to buy a new printer when the toner cartridge runs out.
Which means print quality stays top notch:thumb2 And the brother drivers seem stable so far.

Just had another thought - have you tried re-installing the printer drivers?

edit: Seem to be thinking along the same lines as Shep!

I'm afraid I don't actually know how to do this.
And thanks Shep, I've been using HP printers for years and years so maybe I've just been lucky.
I'm hoping to try another printer later today so will make that a first step and review it all after that.
Thanks again folks, appreciated.

The drivers should be on the CD that came with the printer.

Hopefully it will just be a case of loadingt the CD up and follow the instructions - might give you the option of "install Drivers"

If the CD is missing then Drivers can be obtained from the HP web-site. You would need to enter your printer details and (perhaps) the version of Windows you are using

Thanks very much for all the hints and tips folks.
I managed to get hold of a brand new, oldish, printer this afternoon.
Installed it and all is now very well in the printing department of the Hustler office again.
So thanks again for all your help and if anyone wants an aged HP Deskjet
710C printer that needs a little bit of work ..............
