I just found out that BMW is halting production on R1200GS/A's until SEPTEMBER! They're gonna concentrate on building those butt-ugly race bikes instead and to hell with all the folks who have a GS on order.

Does that suck or what?

no,

just shows you their priorities

all the ex sports bike come charlie wannabees who gave bumw a massive cash injection to do all this new shit, supported their massive growth in bike market, gave them a name that even 5 years ago you wouldnt have trodden on a bmw bike,
now every fooker wants one and you wonder why

they aint even that reliable

Might be to do with the odd shaped shims the 1200 has , n the regular owner wouldnt even know how to change em any road?

Thats why they swap em after the warranty has run out..

.......it's because the factory is still debating exactly what oil the GS needs for it's first fill. I understand experts from this forum are currently in talks with BMW.

Oh come on, why not assume that they've produced enough GS's to last untill september ? You don't really think that they want to loose customers with the Super Tenere and Multistrada entering the market, do you ? :augie
FWIW, from reading different GS forums I'm not getting the impression that current R12GS owners are trading in their bike for a DOHC model. Perhaps the market is getting saturated with GS's :nenau

Oil ..... do they need oil then ?

Word came directly from BMW factory rep.

Maybe he was lying just to be funny, but I doubt it. He said that it was due to a drop in demand for the R bikes worldwide combined with better than expected sales of the S1000RR. The dealer I spoke to said that in fact he had sold six of the race bikes already. I don't believe that any of the local dealers have sold even one 2010 GS or GSA so far this year.

Maybe BMW saw the writing on the wall and bought a lot of Ducati stock?

Perhaps they have just suspended imports to North America, as the market is rather depressed for BMW Motorcycles.

The factory are still making them, 100% fact

You may be right. I was just quoting what the rep told the dealer here in the US. Where does your info come from?

It could conceivably be that the rep meant that they were halting exports to the US, but that's not what the dealer quoted him as saying.

Time will tell, I guess.

maybee sold all to Italy !!

i'm waiting for a 30° anniversary GS ( 30 Years GS ), my GSA will arrive at the end of June, said GSA because all the GS bikes will com out with the 30 Years GS version in white with Msport colors on tank and red seats, the GSA has only the top of the seat red and sides are black, all with a GS branded on the seats !
