As I have promised to some of you, I have made a light bracket for the F650GS range.
It looks cool even if I say so myself. All it need is a hand of paint and its ready. Oh and finding a set of screws that is long enough and the right pitch...

Comments welcomed.

As tidy an arrangment as you could get, very nice job. :thumb2
Just wondering if I can have one on the 1100.:mmmm

Looks a good set up. Will they take FF 50's or PIAA 002's? How much, or can you provide a sketch of the bracket? Are the lights switchable with the dipped/main beam and if so how did you connect the lights up, or are they connected directly to the battery via a switch?

Good point Shep! Could you please share your thoughts with me on this? pm service is not functional so please send email to dakar(a)blueyonder.co.uk (replacing (a) with @).

Diathi: I dont have a 1100 to pattern off...sorry

JohnP: I am not sure as to the arrangement of the mounting holes on the FF and Piaa but I imagine that they will b easy to accommodate for. As for wiring.. its up to you how you do it. I havent given it much thought yet but there is plenty of info here as to the "correct way" of doing it.

I am not selling these yet as I am not a paid up member. I will soon though provided I can make a satisfactory batch given my current material stock and commitments.

When the lights on can you still see the indicator ok? I have thought about the same idea for the 1200!

Without wishing ...

... to pee on anyones fire, especially someone seeking to improve the breed, but you may be entering 'Dangerous Condition' territory here. Effectively you are placing two metal non-collapsible 'blades' on the part of your vehicle most likely to come into contact with a person during a collision. You really need the advice of a competent vehicle examiner before going into production :o

Its comments like these I am after.

If the thing is unsafe or is deemed unsafe them then I will re-think the design. I will not have anybody get "done" or hurt through my engineering so please please please any comments/concerns you might have share them with me.

I'd have said so too. Isn't that why bikes dont have number plates on the front mudguard anymore? :nenau

If you cut off the 40mm beyond where the holes are drilled then it's as safe
as the TT type and if you used one bolt to mount the bracket it would allow
it to pivot then bend back if something hit it.

Still a very neat idea.

Having cobbled ...

... together a light bar for a 650GS I understand how problematic it can be. I used a straight piece of alloy clamped between the upper beak and lower headlamp shroud. I left it flat because the lights that were used had some vertical adjustment via the supplied bracketry. Left it long enough to avoid problems on full lock but short enough so there was no protrusion beyond the lights; It has apparently just gone through the MoT without raising an eyebrow. I appreciate there is not much scope for innovation with my solution but it does work :thumb2

At the other extreme ...

... are the very lovely and grossly expensive CNC machined GMT mounts that replace the indicator stalk on the 850/1100/1150 range, which are truly a sight to behold :bounce1

I;ve tried and I'm struggling thanks...ps I've also made a canny screen I'd like you all to see...for a laugh..

If you open the picture in "Windows Picture Manager" then click "Image" then
"Resize" and reduce the percentage resolution till it's below the 122kb limit.

Otherwize, do a Google search for "Image Resizer" which is what I use.

Looking forward to seeing the screen.:thumb
