Hi people, thought I'd let you know that Protyre in Bristol has had a good idea and put the car tyre fitters onto the bike fitting dept, I had a mate who worked on the bike side and was very proud of the job he did, well he would being a biker himself. He was so p****d off at the mess the car fitters would do to bike wheels that he told them to shove it!:spitfire
So a word of warning, if you are thinking of using them, be prepared for some damage to you rims.

Is that the chap with the HD Nighttrain?
I had a bad experience with the desk staff at Protyre pissed me around rotten the day before a big trip and have never gone back, which was hard as they were cheap until I started changing my own. I was also told my pads were virtually worn and needed changing when they were less than half down but I put that down to a lack of knowledge of 12GS everlasting pads (which some dont seem to have, granted :p)

I always used to use them for my bike tyres but last time there was some young twat doing the job!

As he went to tighten the front wheel nut he was about to hit a large allen key with a lump hammer to tighten it! At this point I stopped him and point to their list of instructions on the wall saying that wheel nuts should be tightened with a torque wrench!

Additionally they didn't clean off the old balance weights properly. I complained at the reception desk and was told they would have a word but haven't been back since!

I also agree the old chap with the "harley or cruiser" bike always did a good job but not these young twats!

I noticed the same when I went there for a new tyre late last year, not the same care & attention at all - shame.
Who do you recommend now?

Yeah, I've noticed standards dropping there over the years. I always use James Holland and his team at www.jhsracing.co.uk now. Easy to find from the Avon Ring Road and a really friendly bunch. :thumb2

The guy with the HD has been there years and I guess is still there. My mate had not been there long as he had a bad bike accident, lost his other job and was doing good until they started changing things around. I'm stuck as to who to try next as I want to put a new rear on before heading off to Morocco in April, might give Cardiff a look as I dont want to pay Bristol Motorrad prices.:eek

I’ve been using protyre for years without any probs.

Mind you, the last fitting they did for me was last November. Have they changed fitters since then:confused::blast

PROTYRES

Try Protyres in bristol road in Gloucester had a new battlewing fitted in on to my rear wheel(took wheel off myself) no probs so far ....

Wouldn't go back to protyre again after my last timne!

Now use Mark Goodman mobile tyre fitter. Only covers wales but did mine at Magor services. Excellent service and very competitive on price as well.

Theres a place down Weston way, on Winterstoke Rd some use. Cant remember the name. There is also a small place in Old Street Clevedon. Back street type shop but he will order in and fit anything. No idea on price.

would not use them again for my bike, the young lad there stripped the thread in the rear brake caliper and then tried to tell me where to take the bike to get it fixed.

The older guy with the HD agreed to get it fixed locally for me.

I have used Bath road for my last tyre change, more expensive agreed, but they know what they are doing.
:)
